Emmaus House

Emmaus House in Harrogate is a care home managed by the Pilgrims’ Friend Society, focusing on providing compassionate care for older people in a Christian environment. The home is staffed by over 34 dedicated individuals, including carers, a Care Team Leader, and specialized support personnel known as "Hummingbirds" who aid residents with dementia by engaging with them through reading, singing, and prayer. Each resident, referred to as a "family member," receives personalized care through individual Care Plans that cover their health history, interests, and needs, promoting their independence while providing necessary assistance.

The care philosophy, known as "The Way We Care," emphasizes understanding each person's unique background to better support their well-being. Activities at the home include group Bible studies, devotions, and various social engagements such as crafts, exercise classes, and music. The home's spiritual and community aspects are fostered through regular gatherings led by local ministers and organized activities designed to encourage social interaction among the residents.

Emmaus House aims to create a warm and friendly atmosphere where older individuals can flourish and enjoy life. The current team is led by Christina Medway-Steel, an experienced Care Manager with a background in various care settings, and supported by new administrator Gareth Saunders, who brings a diverse professional history. The home welcomes community engagement and provides a framework where residents can thrive both socially and spiritually.
