Deeply Concerning Experience at This Care Home
I am extremely disappointed with the level of care and professionalism demonstrated by this care home. From the outset, I witnessed staff members bullying new colleagues, forming cliques, and speaking disrespectfully about other staff and even residents’ family members during handovers. The friendly demeanour shown to visitors is, unfortunately, not reflective of what happens behind closed doors.
If the same amount of energy was devoted to resident care as is spent on internal staff issues and gossip, perhaps the residents’ wellbeing would not suffer so significantly.
My relative, who has been under the home’s care for a year, is now critically ill in hospital with sepsis—an outcome that I firmly believe is the result of ongoing neglect and poor care practices. Over time, we have observed a steep decline in their mobility, mental wellbeing, and overall health.
Our family raised multiple concerns regarding hydration, nutrition, and recurring issues such as cellulitis, yet these were continuously dismissed or poorly documented. No proper fluid or food intake charts were maintained despite repeated requests. We also raised concerns about personal hygiene, as we strongly suspect that our relative is not capable of independently managing these tasks—yet staff insist otherwise without adequate assessment.
Chronic understaffing further compounds the problem, leading to a consistent compromise in the standard of care delivered.
There are many more issues I could detail. I fear that, like many complaints, this feedback will be ignored or removed by the care home and Larchwood Care as a whole. Unfortunately, our experience has shown that they do not take concerns seriously or act to improve their services.
